What Liv does

Liv is a food scanner that shows how each meal impacts your lifespan in minutes. You scan food with your camera or a barcode, and we show you the result.

Data stored on your device

The following data is stored locally on your device and never leaves it:

  • Your profile — name, age, gender, weight, height, daily goal
  • Your scan history — food names, portions, scores, timestamps
  • Your streak data
  • Your saved meals and ingredients

We do not have accounts or user authentication. There is no way for us to identify you personally.

Data sent to our server

When you scan food, two things are sent to our server:

  • Food photos — sent to our server, which forwards them to OpenAI's API for food recognition. Photos are processed in real time and are not stored by us. OpenAI's data usage policy applies to their processing.
  • Scan results — after you confirm "I ate this," the food name, portion, score, and an anonymous device identifier are logged. This helps us improve the product. No personal profile data is included.

Barcode scanning

When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent directly from your device to the Open Food Facts public API to retrieve nutrition data. We do not proxy or store this request.

Subscriptions

Liv offers optional subscriptions managed entirely through Apple's App Store. We never see or store your payment information. Apple handles all billing. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your iPhone's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.

Third-party services

  • OpenAI — processes food photos for recognition. Their privacy policy.
  • Open Food Facts — provides barcode nutrition data. Their terms.
  • Apple StoreKit — handles subscriptions.

What we don't do

  • We do not use analytics or tracking SDKs
  • We do not serve ads
  • We do not sell or share your data with third parties
  • We do not use cookies
  • We do not collect your email, phone number, or any contact info

Children's privacy

Liv is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we'll change the date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
